Meet Calyn "Collin" Rieger

Calyn Dean Rieger is a next-generation leader with over 11 years of experience in civic engagement, grassroots organizing, and public service. A proud alumnus of Future Farmers of America (FFA) and AmeriCorps, his path has always been grounded in service, community, and results.

Raised in a military household in rural Minnesota, Calyn embodies working-class values and holds a deep respect for our freedoms and liberties. He became a community advocate at just 14 years old—championing policies focused on environmental conservation, youth leadership, rural and urban equity, social justice, and veterans’ affairs. His years of service have strengthened his belief that real leadership begins with listening, collaborating, and delivering practical solutions—not playing political games.

Calyn believes local government should reflect the people it serves. His leadership is rooted in transparency, service, and the belief that every person—regardless of background or location—deserves the opportunity to live authentically, pursue prosperity, and seek happiness.

Rieger's Priorities & Agenda

Rooted in over 400 forward-thinking policy proposals, my agenda focuses on delivering real, lasting results for Colorado’s mountain and rural communities. I will be championing: Affordable Housing & Workforce Retention, Economic Policy & Start-Up Business Development, Public Safety & Infrastructure, Transportation & Connectivity, Community Identity & Cultural Heritage, and finally. Sustainable Tourism & Outdoor Recreation

The goal is simple but urgent: to secure a future for the generations after us. That means confronting neglected problems head-on and creating real solutions—so our communities are not just preserved, but empowered to thrive. Avon is just more than a mountain town surrounded by resorts. We are an actual community that deserves to grow just like any other town in rural USA.

Affordable Housing & Workforce Retention

In Avon, too many workers and families are being priced out of the community they’ve helped build. I’m committed to real, local-first solutions:

  • Creating a workforce-based community housing initiative in partnership with local businesses to help retain staff and support Avon’s year-round economy
  • Expanding housing programs that prioritize local renters and long-term property owners.
  • Offering targeted tax rebates to:
    • Renters
    • Homeowners leasing their homes for a minimum of 12 months
    • Single-home owners
  • Reducing property tax burdens for senior citizens who own and live in one home.

Economic Policy and
Start-up Businesses

In Avon, there is significant potential to create economic opportunities and pathways that encourage locals to start their own small or startup businesses.

  • Support local entrepreneurship by offering grants or sponsorships to waive business permitting fees.
  • Create a “Local Start-Up Fund” that provides microgrants for first-time entrepreneurs.
  • Establish Avon’s first-ever municipal Chamber of Commerce with goals such as maintaining a business directory, providing mentorship for startups, and promoting collaboration with surrounding groups and organizations.
  • Promote economic diversification beyond tourism by investing in green energy, creative industries, trades, and remote work infrastructure.

Public Safety & Infrastructure

In Avon, enhancing public safety and infrastructure is essential to creating a secure and accessible community for all residents and visitors.

  • Increase protections for bikers and pedestrians, especially around roundabouts and high-traffic areas, by improving signage, crosswalks, and traffic calming measures.
  • Establish a hotline or a online platform for residents to report infrastructure damage, safety concerns, or suggestions for improvements.
  • Expand lighting and visibility improvements in key pedestrian and cycling corridors to reduce accidents and enhance security.
  • Work towards securing a secondary route for Wildridge and Morning Star residents.

Transportation & Connectivity

Improving transportation and connectivity in Avon is vital to supporting residents, visitors, and local businesses with efficient and accessible options.

  • Implement live-streaming of bus locations via GPS, allowing riders to track buses in real-time and better plan their trips.
  • Develop a park-and-ride facility that offers convenient parking for commuters, including overnight parking options available for a reasonable fee.
  • Increase availability of public Wi-Fi hotspots in key community areas.
  • Enhance digital communication channels between residents and local government, such as monthly newsletter, apps, hotlines, and online portals.

Community Identity & Cultural Heritage

As a former member of Avon’s Cultural, Arts, and Special Events (CASE) Committee, I’ve seen that funding varies with each council. I champion:

  • Establishing a community cultural center celebrating Avon’s heritage and bring us together.
  • Partnering with local groups, Indigenous communities, and historical societies to preserve traditions.
  • Support special events and exhibitions that promote community pride.
  • Supporting year-round, all ages educational programs that highlight Avon’s cultural roots.
  • Create a young professional and development program.
  • Specifically- creating more after-school recreation/ heritage programs with minimum costs.

Sustainable Tourism & Outdoor Recreation

With six years of service in AmeriCorps and six years in hospitality, I understand how vital sustainable tourism and outdoor recreation are to Avon’s economy and environment. I support:

  • Promoting responsible tourism that protects natural resources and minimizes environmental impact.
  • Enhancing outdoor recreation opportunities while preserving trails, parks, and wildlife habitats.
  • Developing infrastructure that balances accessibility with preservation, ensuring Avon remains a year-round destination.
  • Constructing new revenue streams such as campgrounds, an astronomical observation station, designated overnight parking spaces, etc.
